Curing of marijuana and its conservation – Tutorial
When we have finished the drying process correctly and verified that the buds are sufficiently dry we will go through the process of curing the marijuana.
As we have read in the process of drying marijuana, curing is closely linked to drying to obtain the maximum quality of marijuana buds in terms of smell, flavor and potency.
It is a process similar to wine aging.
After drying the marijuana, the buds still contain chlorophyll. With the curing process we will try to eliminate that "green" flavor (chlorophyll) and its duration will be between 4 and 8 weeks. The maturation reactions of cannabinoids and terpenes also take place. THC stops being in its acidic state (THC-A) to become pscioactive (THC). Or said another will increase the psychoactive power of the buds.
There are users who lengthen the curing process up to a year, but this causes a degradation of THC and a lower psychoactive effect. On the other hand, part of the THC will become CBN and you will get a more narcotic or sedative effect. But it depends on each person and the uses that you want to give to cannabis.
We can use several procedures for curing marijuana:
Hermetic glass boats.
Cedar wood boxes (the best known are the boxes 00Box).
The simple, effective and cheap method is with hermetic glass canisters. The boats should have an opening large enough so that you can easily introduce the buds.
Conditions for curing
We will introduce the buds in the glass jar and place it in a cool, dark place.
The temperature must be below 26ºC with an environmental humidity of 55-65%. In this way the process will be done slowly and in good condition.
We should not squeeze the buds, we should let the air pass between them.
You have to open the glass jar and leave it open for about an hour and then we will close it again. If we perform the process in a wooden box or carton we will also turn the buds.
The opening frequency of the boat is as follows:
First week: 1 time a day.
Second week: 1 time every 3 days.
Next weeks: 1 time a week.
At the beginning you will notice that when you open the jar the buds will be a little wet or sweat, it is normal. In this way the excess water will be eliminated.
After the time, when you open the boat you will see that the buds are already crisp again.
Conservation of marijuana after curing
For conservation we will need an airtight and opaque container. They can be glass jars or vacuum storage bags. We will not use wooden boxes because they are not watertight enough.
The best option is vacuum packaging bags. We must prevent air from entering, to prevent the resin glands from oxidizing.
We can preserve the harvest for a year without losing only psychoactivity. We can even store them in the fridge and keep them for 2 or 3 years.

Here is what you want to know before seeing your local medical dispensary:You will need a physician’s recommendation, medical cannabis certification, or whatever appropriate documentation is required by your state. Typically, you must be 18 or older to qualify for a medical authorization, but exceptions may be made in some conditions for minors with particularly debilitating problems. You will often enroll with a medicinal dispensary. This is to keep your medical cannabis recommendation or certificate on file for legal and regulatory purposes. There’ll be a waiting space. This is to control the circulation of patients and product, but a straightforward dividing wall also gives patients solitude and direct one-on-one contact using a budtender to discuss medical issues. This process can help budtenders and patients monitor effective medicine in addition to possess a living record of producers and products for future reference and follow up. Medicinal dispensaries usually allow you to smell and analyze the buds before buy. This might vary from state-to-state.
Yes, municipal approval is necessary before the AGLC will issue a retail cannabis license. Applicants must get in touch with their planned municipality to find out requirements concerning municipal retail cannabis legislation, zoning requirements, land-use limitations, and place requirements regarding how near a retail shop is to a provincial medical care centre, college, or parcel of property designated as a school book.
